Creation Story of the Stars and Light; Retold

As I fly through the world, alive and new, I notice just how dreary a world without light is. I feel as though I am deprived, and I rightfully should have light to enjoy. I hear from another little bird that atop a hill sits a hut, where a wealthy man and his daughter live. This man possesses three precious bags containing the stars, moon, and sun. Hearing of this, I devise a plan to infiltrate the house and gain the previous gifts for my enjoyment.

My plan is full proof; turn myself into a speck of dust, land in the drink of the daughter, and be born into the world as a raven child and aquire the bags through whatever means necessary. I turn myself into the particle and go into the daughter's water. She drinks me unknowingly, impregnating herself with me, the raven child.

Born into the world, I am helpless and immobile. The new grandfather is very doting to me, which should make my job much more manageable. I see the three purple, supple bags sitting atop the high shelf, which is much out of my reach (curse this lack of height and mobility!), and so I sit down, and cry. The grandfather rushes over to me, grabbing the first bag and placing it on the floor in front of me. I had to cause quite a ruckus, but I still got the bag! Now, the moment I have been waiting for. I giggle, and open the bag. . .the stars fling out and fly through the smoke hole.

Feeling confident in my success, I decide to cry for the next. The grandfather doesn't hurry over to me this time, so I cry louder. This hurries things up and brings him right over, practically throwing the next bag at me just so I will stop my crying. Again with a giggle, I immediately open the bag and send the moon out along with the stars through the smoke hole. The grandfather looks a little pale from worry, but that doesn't stop me from crying for the last bag.

As I begin to cry, the grandfather looks at me, then at the bag, then at me, and finally grabs the bag and placed it in my lap. I know why he hesitated, as this bag contains the sun. Before I open this bag, I stop and realize what I am truly possessing; the sun! I want this for myself, and I will release it when I want. My mind made up, I transform into my pure white raven self and fly out of the smoke hole, bag in beak. I have accomplished my deed, and have gotten a reward out of it. I decide that I will keep this sun to myself, and fly to my hearts content with the sun in my possession.

  1. Hello Raven! Being the moon, I would like to thank you and your people for the story of my release. Though they have different theories than my own tribe, it is still an amusing tale as you are quite the cunning bird!~Komorkis
